Loyd Wilson is a native North Carolinian, residing in Wake Forest and Oak Island, NC. He comes from a family that taught love and respect for the outdoors at an early age. Loyd graduated from UNC Wilmington, class of 2000, and is currently a scientist at a biopharmaceutical company.
While growing up in rural NC, when sports permitted time in the outdoors, fishing occupied much of Loyd’s time. He began fly fishing as a teenager using his papaw’s old Shakespeare fiberglass rod targeting largemouth bass. He gravitates to all things outdoors—both fly and conventional fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, sipping strong coffee, mushroom foraging, and working on art projects with family and friends. Loyd enjoys sharing his time in the outdoors with his beautiful wife and two silly daughters—especially while on vacations spent away from the crowds.
Loyd is a self-taught artist outside of his professional career and focuses primarily on subjects that fuel his passion for the outdoors. Of interesting note, Loyd’s artistic hobby was recently revived thanks to COVID-19, and all of its associated nuisances since making its introduction into the United States around early 2020. Since Loyd resides in NC, those residents were required to isolate at times, causing most individuals to become somewhat stir crazy. This time of uncertainty and stress led Loyd to pick back up his art hobby after being shelved for almost 20 years. His portfolio shows only some of his works from 2020 and 2021.
