A JOURNEY INTO NATURE THROUGH ART AND ARCHITECTURE.
WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA - ARCHITECT AND ARTIST
Chip Hemingway draws inspiration from the natural and man-made world, both of which provide endless opportunities to create his impressionistic impasto paintings en plein air and in his studio. He is often found within the surf line around Wrightsville Beach capturing the flurry of tide, waves, people and billowing clouds in oil on canvas.
Born in Chapel Hill and raised in eastern North Carolina, Hemingway has lived in Wilmington since 1989. A surfer for decades, it is the ocean and beauty of nature that inspired him to become an artist and an architect. Chip’s art and architecture is informed by light, nature, travel, and culture. His architecture firm, Bowman Murray Hemingway is located in downtown Wilmington’s historic district.
